New Hampshire Personal Injury Lawyer Discusses Hot Medical Malpractice Topic Avelox

Drugs heal. However, drugs may also cause serious adverse reactions that harm a patient.

“If it isn’t one thing, it’s another,” said Charlie Donahue, a New Hampshire personal injury lawyer located in Keene. Donahue handles injury cases in New Hampshire and across the United States. “Defective products don’t just come in the shape of cars, tools, hair dryers, toys and medical devices; defective and deadly products come in the guise of pills that are supposed to help you get better.”

The pill in this case certainly did not make the patient that took it better. Instead, it resulted in severe tendon damage to her hips after taking a drug for sinusitis. “This is a case I heard about just last month, and it involved a 35-year-old woman given Avelox for sinusitis. Its side effect, also called an adverse reaction, caused tendonitis in her hips. That damage directly impacted on her quality of life in terms of being able to walk properly,” Donahue said.

Despite what the defendant alleged at trial, that they were not responsible for the damages, the jury found otherwise and awarded $203,614 for pain and suffering. It was not too difficult to reach that particular decision, as there was more than ample evidence to support the plaintiff’s stated reaction to Avelox.

All it took was for the plaintiff’s legal counsel to check the literature online that indicated that Avelox is a fluoroquinolone, noted to have a direct impact on tendons, more specifically the Achilles’ tendon. In this instance, it was the plaintiff’s hip tendons that took a beating, as a result of taking this questionable drug.

“And yet, the drug maker still kept selling it and stating the adverse reactions were not related to their drug. It appears that the many patient reports to the Food and Drug Administration and found online in various forums indicates otherwise,” Donahue said.

“If you have been in a situation like this, for instance, you took this drug, or another one, and had frightening side effects that caused everything from black urine, severe headaches, ruptured tendons, sore kidneys and numbness to burning in your extremities, we need to talk. You need to know what you can do to recover compensation for your medical and emotional distress. I am here to help you, should you choose to work with me. Personal injury law is my only job and I work for you, no one else,” Donahue said.
